The Aussies took their lead past 400 with some good lower order contributions. After Simon Katich departed for 83 and Mitch Johnson for 30, Tim Paine scored 47 and added 74 for the 8th wicket with Tasmanian team mate, Ben Hilfenhaus.

Hilfenhaus went on to his highest Test and first class score - 56*. He and Doug Bollinger (21) added 52 for the 10th. wicket as Australia set Pakistan 440 to win. Umar Gul took 4/61 and Mohammad Asif, 3/77.
