With 2005 fast drawing to a close I thought I might put up this thread to find out your favorite cricket moment of 2005 either at International game or a domestic game either if you were there in person or watching on the TV.

I will start this off:

Ashes test at Edgbaston: One of great finishes of all time with the Aussies only going down by 2 runs. It reminded me so much of the Australia vs West Indies test at Adelaide in 1992/93 when the Aussies lost by 1 run.

Michael Hussey what a player: His emergance as a test player has been amazing and watching him in person at the MCG this past week with 10th wkt stand with Glenn McGrath on Day 2 was just fantastic. Following on from great performances eariler in this summer. No doubt he will be in the Aussie side for the next few years.

Nice one, Robbo.

M Huss, definitely a highlight of 2005.

No doubt I'll think of more but the Pura Cup final could hardly have been a better finish.

Let's relive a bit of it from our archives:

CER ---- ASH!!

MacGilla to face the hat trick ball.

Keeps it out and survives the over.

The Blues have lost 5/3 in 18 balls!

NSW have lost 5-3 - major choke!

1 wicket left, 22 runs to get.

Bracken hits 8 from that over. 13 needed.

MacGilla to face Bichel.

3 dots.

LOL - 54.2 Bichel to MacGill, no run, slash outside off stump, misses ball by
a good half metre

Gets a single from the 4th. Bracken plays out the over.

12 needed.

56.2 Bichel to MacGill, FOUR, sensation! MacGill pulls the ball for
four, copybook shot

Now MacGill to face the next over. 2 needed.

A tie no good for NSW.

Bangladesh recording a first test victory - and seeing all the people dance in the streets. Enamul Haque jnr taking 5fa, 6fa & 7fa in the series. Ending up with 18 for the series.

Then the Tiges becoming the first side to come back from 2 down in 5 match ODI series to win 3-2.

Then ofcourse the victory over Australia
Aftab Ahmed famously clubbing Gillespie over the mid wicket boundary. Up until then - I never thought we could win. But hearing David Lloyd scream out "You're home!" I thought s**t - WE BEAT AUSTRALIA!

Then Ashraful destroying England at Trent Bridge - pity we had conceded 394!

Away from Bangladesh:

The Ashes - Even up to the last day at The Oval i thought the Aussies were good things.

Pakistan's great escape at Mohali - turing the series on its head. Leading into..
Afridi's 108 off 45 balls in ODI series v India

Watching Shoaib destroy England so soon after The Ashes

Gayles triple v SA

Then Hussey and Hodge reaping the rewards for years of slaving away at domestic levels. Well Deserved!.

So many highlights! What a great year of international cricket!

And Donny you're right, that Pura Cup final was something really special!!

To be honest there haven't been many high points for myself in 2005. Probably going 1 nil up against Pakistan when Lara smashed 190 odd and Collymore did the rest with the ball. Windies bowling in Sri Lanka was highly incouraging.

Lara's 226 wasn't as high as i thought it would be, but a great moment nonetheless, and even though it seems insignificant to almost everyone on this site, Bravo and Ramdins partnership of around 180 was the highest point of the year for me, not only because at the time it gave us a chance, it was a sign that we aren't dead and burried, and our future still has glimmers of brilliance.

(1) Afridi dismissing Tendulkar in Bangalore, THAT was the moment I firmly started to belief that Pakistan can do it

(2) Shoaib dismantling Giles' twin stumps out of Multan to ensure no contribution from a reasonable lower order bat, in pursuit of a low target.

(3)Bond mesmerizing Indians in Videocon cup, as the speedster was causing the riot on will

Vice Versa: Hair adjudicating Inzzy run-out in Faisalabad was IMO the most ugliest moment of 2005. Ofcourse, there was One Rudy Kourtzen as well.

For sheer drama, Australia v Bangladesh was incredible. Ashraful's ton and Aftab Ahmed's six off Gillespie's last over.

Freddie Flintoff at Edgbaston. Basically everything he did in that match, the mad 70 odd he smashed in the second innings, the six out of the ground, his unplayable over in the second innings, topped by the moment where he gave his commiserations to the defeated.

Also McGrath's spell of 5 wickets for 2 runs at Lord's. That's not bowling, that's perfection.

The emergence of Michael Hussey. He's done everything that's been asked of him and a lot more too. He's a shoe-in for the Allan Border Medal, I reckon.

Also the emergence of Kevin Pietersen. Can't catch, but certainly can bat! Sums up the confidence in this England team. Won England the Ashes by first standing up to McGrath at Lord's, then hitting that crazy 158 at The Oval. Maniac.

Inzamam ul Haq and his growing in stature. His century in his 100th Test match which helped obtain an unlikely series draw against India. Then he batted incredibly in the ODIs after the Tests. Another century in the West Indies which drew a series they were expected to win.

The last day at Old Trafford - incredible. I had an assessment the following day but stayed up to watch all of it, and every minute was worth it. Ponting's 156, one of the best innings I've ever seen.

Rahul Dravid given the full time captaincy of the Indian team. Immediate improvement for Team India, with a tactically good captain who also leads by example. Better late than never.

High Points:

Afridi's Aggression in Banglore test.

Afridi's second fastest century against India.

Flintoff's over to Ricky Ponting.

Inzi's form through out hte whole year.

Abdul's emergence in AC.

Low Points:

Pakistan losing to Windies in first test.

Bangladesh and Zimbabwe continues with their test status.

Shane Warne's excessive apealing.

ICC SUPER SERIES.

Well if you see I mainly pointed out the joyous moments I cherished. However, one single truthful moment from 2005 doesn't harm the topic at all.

"one single truthful moment"??

What does this mean Hache? Aren't the other posts in here truthful?

By the way, your 'truthful moment' was not. It was the 3rd. umpire, Nadeem Ghauri, who incorrectly gave Inzamam out in Faisalabad, not Darrel Hair.

Either way, was this an enjoyable moment for you? I don't think so. Therefore it doesn't belong in this thread. :D

Nopes
, Nadeem Ghauri was specifically asked to declare either Inzzy's bat is in the popping crease or not, when Harmison's return back throw made contact with the stumps. Eventually Hair holds all the right to adjucate a decision based on third umpire's help, articulation of appeal, and , some common sense which` obviously wasen't there.

Pakistan are right to call for his Sustitution in coming Indian series!

Before jumpinng in excitement to Quote, you could see *vice versa* written in the begining of that statement. :-D

Ohh and how could i forget.

One of the most memorable cricketing moments of 2005, My brother, a few mates and myself sitting in the lounge room, going for Australia like crazy (for a change, dont ask why) and McGrath has just gotten a wicket, high fives everywhere, everyones pumped up, i turn around to everyone and state

"McGrath will be on a hatrick, next ball he will get Ian Bell Caught at first slip"

Amazingly, next ball, edged straight down Shane Warnes throat at first slip, the eruption in the lounge room was unbelievable. Memorable lol
